Why Are Fireworks Used To Celebrate July 4th?

Today is July fourth, the celebration of the Declaration of Independence from Great Britain and the birth of our great nation.  But why are fireworks a part of that celebration.  Candy Warren from the Livingston County Library looked into that question, which was asked by her son. Warren says fireworks have even been used to celebrate the July 4th holiday in Antarctica.  It was a relatively warm day there, 33 degrees below zero.
