Livingston County Library – Labor Day History

Today is Labor Day.  For many is it is a day off work and a long weekend to end the summer. But Candy Warren from the Livingston county Library says this is an industrial based holiday that celebrates major changes in working conditions and hours for American workers.

Warren says that demonstration happened on September 5th, 1882, when 10,000 took unpaid time off to march from City Hall to Union Square in New York City – the first Labor Day Parade.

The Livingston County Library is closed today in observance of the Labor Day Holiday.
