CHS Softball Goes 2-2 in Home Tournament

The Chillicothe Lady Hornets had their share of ups and downs in Saturday’s CHS Softball Tournament. Chillicothe was one of three teams in their pool that finished 2-1. A tie breaking procedure put them in third place in their pool.

In the first game, Chillicothe beat Macon 11-10 in an incredible comeback win. Heading into the bottom of the fifth inning Chillicothe was down 10-1 but scored twice in the fifth, three in the sixth and five in the seventh inning for the win. Chillicothe had 13 hits including a Mica Hibner home run and a double and two singles from her cousin Jordan Hibner.

In the second game, Excelsior Springs scored early and often to beat Chillicothe 13-7. The Lady Tigers tied the score at 3-3 in the bottom of the first and added five runs in the second and fourth innings in the five-inning game. Abby Jones led Chillicothe with a double and two singles with three runs scored.

In the final pool play game, Chillicothe beat North Platte 10-6. Jones again led the offense with two doubles and a single, part of twelve hits by the Lady Hornets.

After the tie breaking rules, Chillicothe played the third place team from the opposite pool and lost to Richmond 9-6. Kennedy Corzette had a home run and a single as part of the team’s eight hits performance.
