The 2018 Chillicothe R-II School District’s Teacher of the Year and Beacon Award winners were announced Friday afternoon before their peers.

The Beacon Award is presented to a member of the support staff at the Chillicothe Schools.  Each building nominates one person and a winner is selected from the nominations.  This year’s Beacon Award Winner is Middle School Secretary Jeanette Johnson.  Superintendent Dr Roger Barnes talked about Johnson.

Teacher of the Year Stacy Surber

The Teacher of the Year is also selected from nominees from each building.  This year’s Teacher of the Year is Stacy Surber, a Science Teacher at the Chillicothe High School.  Surber has taught for 18 years, 12 of those at the Chillicothe High School.  Dr Barnes shared several comments from her colleagues.

The awards are presented with the assistance of the Chillicothe Education Foundation, who provides the prize money that is presented to each of the nominees and the winners both for their classroom and for themselves.

The Teacher of the Year award has been presented in the Chillicothe School District for 27 years.  The Beacon Awards have been presented for 11 years.
