Wild Finish to Hornets Road Win

The Chillicothe Boys Basketball team survived a wild and distracting finish to beat Kirksville 53-50 on the road.
Chillicothe led by two points with under three seconds left when a foul sent Westley Brandsgaard to the free throw line. After hitting the first free throw, some fans rushed down the bleachers to the balcony and waved and shouted for medical personnel. The game was halted while a person in the crowd was treated for a medical condition.
After a few minutes, the thumbs up was given and Brandsgaard shot and missed his final free throw.
He grabbed his own rebound, which Kirksville then tipped out of bounds. The Hornets in bounded the ball to end the game.
Coach Tim Cool said the team had a rare feat, with two players earning a “double-double”.

Chillicothe led by 12 points late in the third quarter before Kirksville mounted a comeback, getting to with in just one point late in the game, but no closer.
In addition to Brandsgaard’s 23 points and Pfaff’s 14, Hayden Simmer had seven, Peyton Fork and Bradley Riley with three each, Eli Cross with two and Hunter Swift with one. William Perry also provided key minutes off the bench.
Chillicothe continues their road trip when they put their 5-2 record on the line Thursday at Lawson with the varsity game at 7:30. KCHI will be at the Girls Game in Columbia and will not be able to broadcast the boys game.
