Sewell Takes 3rd,, Team 21st at State Wrestling

Chillicothe’s 132 pound wrestler Colten Sewell finished with a third place medal in the MSHSAA Championships Wrestling Tournament.
Sewell won his first match by pin, but then lost in the quarterfinals 6-1 to the eventual State Champion that finished with a 55-1 record.
In wrestlebacks, Sewell won four matches including the third place match 1-0.
Matt Callen at 220 pounds came up one match short from a medal in a wild tournament ride. Callen lost in the first round, had a rare state tournament bye, then beat a Kirksville wrestler by disqualification. Callen was temporarily knocked out when his opponent attempted a cross face move but hit Callen’s face by mistake.
The win would of put him in the medal round semi-finals, but he did not compete and lost due to medical forfeit.
The only other Hornet wrestlers to win one match at the tournament were 120 pound Connor Keithley and 138 Lavery Jones.
Chillicothe’s team finished in 21st place in Class 2.
Only three other MEC wrestlers finished with a medal. Benton had a 2nd at 138 and a 5th at 106 while Maryville had a 6th place at 126.
Area Class 1 Medalists included:
Marceline team took 5th place with a state champion at 113 with Cooper Fisher, 2nd at 126 and 145, 4th at 182 and 5th at 152.
Gallatin finished 6th with a state champion at 220 with Graydee Rains, 3rd at 120, 5th at 106 and 160 and 6th at 126 and 170.
Brookfield was 9th with two state champions: Donavan Parn at 126 and Brooks Baker won his third state championship at 285 to go along with a second place.
Polo had one medalist, earning 2nd at 132.
