Fire Damages Home At 70 Walnut Wednesday Afternoon

A fire call at 1:10 pm at 70 Walnut Street summoned Chillicothe Fire Fighters Wednesday afternoon.  The fire crew arrived to find fire coming from three sides of the building and wires sparking in the grass on the north side of the building.  The house is in the back of the lot at the address.  The fire crew appeared to have the fire under control in about 20 minutes and back in service in about 30 minutes.

Prior to the fire department arrival, the owner had opened a door to let a pet out of the building.

The resident stated that he had been in the home around noon but left.  The mail carrier contacted them stating that they had lots of smoke coming from the home.  The resident stated they had a game controller charger plugged in by the couch.

Chillicothe Fire Fighters used about 3,500 gallons of water to put out the fire.

A strong wind out of the south was driving thick smoke through the downtown area during the fire.
