Main Street Chillicothe is once again a Nationally and State Accredited Main Street Community. The continued Accreditation followed a program visit from representatives of the National Main Street Center and Missouri Main Street Connection. The accreditation is the highest level a downtown revitalization program can achieve.
There is a 10-point criteria a program must meet or exceed for accreditation. The criteria are utilized across the country to recognize high achieving Main Street programs.
The criteria covers various aspects of revitalization work that help create a sustainable, community-driven program, a strong historic preservation ethic, and other items that help the program function at a high level.
Throughout 2018, Main Street Chillicothe saw both public and private investment of more than $350,000 in the historic district from 33 projects. The district saw a net gain of five new business and 46 new jobs. Volunteers for Main Street Chillicothe donated more than 49,000 hours of their time.
