Hornets Baseball Takes 6th in Own Tournament

The Chillicothe Hornets Baseball team’s come from behind attempt fell short in a loss to Maryville. The Hornets lost to Maryville 9-7 on Saturday in the Hornets Baseball Tournament Consolation game.
Maryville scored six in the second and three in the third for a 9-1 lead. Chillicothe scored one in the third, four in the fourth and one in the fifth of the five inning contest.
Both teams had eight hits and one error each, but Chillicothe couldn’t battle back from the early deficit.
Mason Baxter highlighted the offense with a solo shot over Center Field in Danner Park to start the scoring in the bottom of the first inning.
Maryville’s big second inning included two doubles, a single, three hit batters and a walk.
Baxter had a double to go with his home run. Jaden Winder had a double and single, Westley Brandsgaard and Brock Ward both had two singles.
Baxter had three RBI, Winder had two and Brandsgaard and Ward had one each.
Dawson Wheeler went three innings and Brock Ward went two on the mound. The two combined to allow 9 earned runs off eight hits with three strike outs and five walks.
In the Championship game Lafayette beat Benton for the title.
