Ready Scouts Program Offered By FEMA and KU

Area Boy Scouts have an opportunity to work on as many as 7 merit badges in one weekend through a program presented by FEMA and the University of Kansas.  This Saturday, July 27th, KU will partner with FEMA Region VII for a “ReadyScout” Event at the Edwards Campus in Overland Park, KS.  The class will run from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  This event is aimed at creating a Culture of Preparedness with youth partnerships of all kinds, including the Boy Scouts of America.

Agencies involved will include the Overland Park Fire Department, Kansas City Police Department, University of Kansas Emergency Management, University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas Task Force 1, and the National Weather Service Forecast Office from Pleasant Hill, MO.

At this ReadyScout event, scouts will be completing requirements towards the Crime Prevention, Fire Safety, Weather, Emergency Preparedness, Safety, Search and Rescue, and Public Health Merit Badges. Instructors for each of the Merit Badges are professionals in their respective field and represent local, state, and federal partners in public safety and emergency management.
