Chase And Crash Results In Serious Injuries

An Independence man had serious injuries in a single-vehicle accident Monday afternoon in Daviess County.  State Troopers report that at 3:50 pm, 27-year-old Levi Williams was being pursued by law enforcement, northbound on Interstate 35, 13 miles north of Cameron when he traveled off the left side of the road and into the median.  He overcorrected, ran off the right side of the road, and struck an embankment.  His car overturned several times before coming to rest on its wheels.  Williams was not wearing a safety belt.  He was flown to Truman Medical Center in Kansas City.

Williams was also arrested for alleged resisting arrest by fleeing, speeding, careless and imprudent driving resulting in an accident, failure to drive in a single lane, failure to yield to emergency vehicles, no turn signal, displaying plates from another vehicle, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and failure to stop at a stop sign.  He was released for treatment.
