Peaceful Protest In Chillicothe Thursday Evening

Revised 6/5 10:30

A protest in Chillicothe Thursday evening was in support of the Black Lives Matter movement.  At about 6:15 pm, the protesters, mainly from the local area, lined the one-block area on the east side of Washington Street, from Clay to Jackson.  The group that grew to nearly 100 was organized by four local high school students and seemed to be mainly high school and college-aged, but included several that were both older and younger and were from varied ethnic backgrounds.

Chillicothe Police Chief Jon Maples met with the group early in the protest.  He reported no problems and the protest ended about 8:30 with a prayer.

Many people honked and waved in support of the group as the drove by on Washington Street.
