Hornets Lose Close Game at Kirksville

The Chillicothe Hornets football team fell to 0-2 with a 26-21 loss at Kirksville.
Chillicothe scored in the first quarter on a Gage Leamer 2-yard run on a drive set up by a Christian Peniston interception.
Kirksville answered on a 21-yard quarterback, run to tie the score.
In the second quarter, a 12-play drive ended with a Cayden Potter 1 yard run to give the Hornets a 14-7 lead at halftime.
Kirksville scored in the 3rd quarter on a 57-yard run but missed the conversion for a 14-13 Hornets lead
Late in the 3rd quarter, a 91-yard drive by Kirksville ended in a touchdown and a two-point conversion for a 21-14 lead.
Chillicothe scored on a 13-play drive that ended with a Damarcus Kelow
2-yard run. The kick was good to tie the score with 6:37 left.

Chillicothe had a chance at the end of the game on a pass play, but the intended receiver stumbled and failed to make the catch. The game was filled with turnovers, Kirksville with three interceptions and one lost fumble while Chillicothe threw two interceptions and lost three fumbles.
Chillicothe heads to Maryville next Friday.
