National Farm Safety Week: Grain Bin Safety

Grain Bin Safety is a top concern, especially in the fall harvest season.  This is National Farm Safety Week and an opportunity to review good safety practices,  Valerie Tate, Field Agronomy Specialist with the University of Missouri Extension Program says grain bin safety should not be taken lightly.

Tate says it is nearly impossible to free yourself, even in knee-deep grain.

Tate recommends ensuring equipment is off and can not be started while someone is in a grain bin.

Known as the “Lock-Out Tag-Out” system, it can prevent someone from unknowingly starting the equipment.  Putting a tag on the equipment lets others know why it has been locked off.
