Sheriff Steve Cox Warns Of SCAMS

If you have a phone, you’ve probably received at least one of the various types of scam calls. Livingston County Sheriff Steve Cox says he hopes no one has fallen prey to the scammer and given out your identity or lost money.

Cox says some recent SCAM complaints involve calls claiming to be a major cell phone provider wanting to update information, a company wanting to confirm your new Medicare card or supplement insurance, someone offering to lower your interest on credit cards, and even false claims of being your grandchild or relative who was arrested or injured and needing immediate money.  Cox says All of those are SCAMS and most are operated from outside the United States.

He says cell phone providers are supposedly coming out with ways to stop some of these calls, but there are calls that may still get through.

Cox says if you have your identity stolen or are actually scammed out of money, you should report the incident to your local law enforcement agency. Keep your identity and your money safe.
