Some Scammers Don’t Quit

Some scammers don’t quit, even once they have your money.  The Livingston County Sheriff’s Department took a report of a recent scam, where an elderly person lost $300.  Sheriff Steve Cox says this person was notified they had won about $1,000 and they were sent a check.  The person was instructed to deposit the check and send back $300 for fees and taxes on the prize.  Cox says a few days later the bank notified them the check was bogus.  The victim was out the $300 and had spent some of the “prize money” on repairing a car.

Cox says the scammers continue to call the victim from a number out of Jamaica wanting more money.

Cox says to keep your money and your identity.  If it sounds too good to be true it probably is.
