Excessive Rain Taking A Toll On Planting

Excessive rain this spring has kept some area farmers from planting the crops they had planned.  Janette Straker from the Livingston County Farm Service Agency office says only 50% of the crop acres have been planted this year.

Straker says for many that have not been able to get into the fields, Corn is probably not an option.

She says soybeans are an option.

Straker says the excessive rainfall will also cause a delay for the first cutting of hay.  She says at least this year they will have something to cut, unlike last year.
