Mudcats Split Thursday Twin Bill

(Story by Patrick Wheeler)
The Chillicothe Mudcats went 1-1 against the Joplin Outlaws in a doubleheader on Thursday, losing in the first 4-3 and winning in the second 2-0.
The Mudcats would play two 7 inning games against the Outlaws and things did not go their way in the first one in a 4-3 loss. The Cats answered the Outlaws 2 runs in the first with 1 of their own on a Blaine Ray RBI single.
Dom Trevino would add a sac fly RBI in the 4th to give the Cats a 3-2 lead. Tyler Venditti would manage to pitch all 7 innings in this one and went 4 straight without giving up a run.
That changed in the 6th when he gave up a 2 RBI single to make it 4-3. The Mudcats would strand the bases loaded in the bottom of the 7th to lose their 3rd straight and go to 9-7.
In the second game it was nothing short of a pitcher’s duel. Scott Duensing got his 3rd start of the year for Chillicothe and threw 6 innings of scoreless baseball with just 2 hits and 8 K’s.
Kole Ficken would be hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the 6th and Blaine Ray would add a sac fly RBI insurance run for the Cats to make it 2-0. That’s all they needed as Jack McNellis came in to get his second save of the year and secure the 10th Mudcat win of the season.
The Mudcats are now 10-7 and play the Des Moines Peak Prospects in Chillicothe on Saturday night. Patrick Wheeler will have the first pitch for you at 7:05 pm
