New Playground Equipment Planned

Thanks to a combined effort by a citizens organization and the City Council, Simpson Park will have new playground equipment in a new location in the future.
The Friends of the Parks group addressed the city council in the Finance meeting about the project. Spokesperson Lou Cowherd said the goal is to put new playground equipment to the north and east of the current playground on the east side of Simpson Park.
Much of the current equipment would stay, including the historic “Rocket Slide.”
The projected cost would be $400,000 dollars and would include proper drainage , all weather surface and would be A.D.A. accessible. The Friends of the Parks have been working with the Parks Board and Parks Director Josh Norris on the project.
The Friends of the Park asked the city for 25% of the cost, up to $100,000 for the project. Cowherd stated that would help their fundraising efforts with area foundations contributions.
In the regular council meeting, members approved including the $100,000 in next fiscal year’s budget for the project.
