Briner Headed to State Cross Country

Chillicothe Lady Hornet Freshman Aliyah Briner finished 5th in the District Cross Country meet in Platte City. The finish qualified her to compete in the state tournament next weekend. The top 15 runners advanced to the state meet. Briner’s time of 21.33 was just under two minutes of the winning time by a Smithville girl.
Chillicothe’s Clarissa Nivens just missed the cut for the state meet with a 16th place finish, only a few seconds behind the 15th place runner. Juliann Gabrielson was 27th, Emma Burk 38th, Callaway Chapman 40th and Kaylynn Cranmer 43rd.
Smithville won the girls team title with a score of 41 with St Pius X a close 2nd with 45. Chillicothe was 4th out of 7 complete teams with a 114.
Chillicothe Junior Hayden Simmer ran a strong race in a tough field and finished 24th place for the Hornets. Clayton Savage was 66th, Brady Bernskoetter 69th, Logan Gregory 70th, Gavin Funk 71st and Nathan Toole 74th. Chillicothe finished 10th place over all. Smithville was 1st and Maryville 2nd in the boys race.
