The Benton Cardinals beat the Chillicothe Hornets basketball team 39-36 to win the Savannah Tournament.
After a tie score heading in the 4th quarter, Benton went on a 6-0 run to take a
five points lead late in the game.
Chillicothe hit a trey, but Benton hit one of two free throws. Chillicothe had a chance at a three point shot just before the buzzer, but turned the ball over at the buzzer.
Wes Brandsgaard had 4 points and 7 rebounds. C. J. Pfaff had 7 points and 10 rebounds. Bradley Riley and Hayden Simmer both had five points. Griff Bonderer had three, Mason Baxter had two points and Damarcus Kelow saw playing time.
Benton was led by Senior Chol Ater with 21 of the team’s 39 points.
Staley beat William Chrisman in overtime for the Girls championship.
Platte County downed Maryville Saturday 64-52 to win the boys 3rd place trophy.
