According to the report, 18-year-old Harley Sammons of Plattsburg was eastbound when his car skidded on the gravel road and went off the left side of the roadway, hit an embankment and went airborne.  The vehicle went through a fence and overturned twice before coming to rest on its top.

Sammons and his passengers were not wearing safety belts.  The 14-year-old with serious injuries was flown to Children’s Mercy Hospital.  A 20-year-old passenger, Seth Pate of Polo, had moderate injuries and was taken to North Kansas City Hospital, while Sammons was taken to Liberty Hospital for treatment of moderate injuries.
