Free Throws Lift Lady Hornets to MEC Win

Free Throws and great defense were the keys to Chillicothe Lady Hornets avenging an early season loss by beating Maryville in MEC competition 41-32.
In the first meeting in the Savannah tournament, Maryville star Serena Sundell had 32 points. In the MEC meeting, last night the entire Maryville team had 32 points.
Free Throws were the key, with Chillicothe hitting 12 of 16 attempts while Maryville never shot a free throw. Chillicothe had four different players go 2 for 2 at the free throw line in the final minute,, to increase a 1 point lead to a 9 point victory. The 32 points are the fewest scored by Maryville this season.
Coach Darren Smith talked about the importance of those final free throws.

Chillicothe was led by Hunter Keithley with 11 points, Jessica Reeter with 10, Jordan Hibner and Brooke Horton each with 8 points, Essie Hicks with 4 and playing time for Lucy Reeter, Selby Miller and Haley Kidd.
Maryville star Serena Sundell was held to just 11 points on the night.
With the win, Chillicothe is 3-0 in conference and the only team that has yet to lose in the MEC race.

The Junior Varsity Lady Hornets had a strong second half to beat Maryville JV 43-29. Chillicothe outscored Maryville 23-12 in the second half for the win.
Clara Leamer had 9 points, Sophia Luettickke and Cali Burkhardt each had 8, Ellie Barnett with 6, Kaylee Munson with 4, Ella Leamer, Bre Pithan and Hope Helton each had two points and Kirsten Dunn had a free throw.
