Breckenridge Schools: Graduation and Bus Grant

The Breckenridge R-I Superintendent Brent Skinner, had some good news this week.

The Graduation Ceremony for the Breckenridge School District is set for July 26th.  The Breckenridge R-I School District announced plans for the graduation ceremony which will be open only for graduates and their families, staff, and board members.  The ceremony will be July 26th at 3:00 pm in the school gymnasium.  Social distancing guidelines will be observed. While at this time masks will not be required, attendees may wear masks if they are more comfortable doing so.

The Breckenridge R-I School District is the recipient of a grant to replace a school bus.  Superintendent Brent Skinner says the Grant is part of the VW Settlement Trust Fund and is to eliminate older buses that emit more pollution.  Breckenridge will replace a 1994 56 passenger school bus with a 14 passenger, gas engine minibus.  The district will be responsible for 15% of the cost.

Skinner says the district received a full replacement grant last year for a full-size bus. In August of 2019, the district took delivery of a 2020 65 passenger bus. He says this has been a really good way to upgrade the district’s bus fleet with newer, more reliable, and more economical transportation for students. The grant is based on the age of the bus fleet and the district’s financial ability to replace buses.
