Police Receive Reports Of Phone Scams

The Chillicothe Police Department took two reports of fraud or attempted fraud Monday.

At about 5:20 pm, a resident reported they were a victim of fraud over the phone.  The victim reported they received a call advising them their computer account was hacked and they could fix it for a certain amount of money.  The victim fell prey to the scheme and purchased several gift cards as payment.

Citizens are advised that if someone contacts them and says that they can help them and wants payment in gift cards or other means, DON’T DO IT!!! It’s a scam!!!!

The Police Department reports they have received many reports of attempted fraud, including individuals claiming to be from the Social Security Administration and saying you owe taxes and needing to pay or else they will have you arrested.

This is also a scam.   Legitimate businesses are not going to call you and make threats to you.   Don’t provide any personal or banking information and HANG UP THE PHONE!!!!!!!

At about 7:30 pm Monday, officers spoke with another person who reported receiving numerous calls from a person stating they are a computer support group.  The report states this person provided no information over the phone.  This is the correct action to do.
