Thanksgiving – Selecting Your Turkey and Thawing

With many families not traveling or attending large family gatherings for the holidays, there may be more people fixing the first Thanksgiving Turkey, or first in several years.  KCHI talked with Butterball Turkey Talk-Line expert Bill Nolan for some tips on the Thanksgiving meal.  Nolan says NOW is the time to be finalizing the plans for the big meal.  If you are hosting even a small group, have them help with some of the preparations by bringing something to contribute to the meal.

As host, you will be responsible for the bird, but how big of a bird do you need.

Of course, if you buy it now, you want to get it into the freezer.  The bird will take time to thaw and Nolan says they recommend thawing in the refrigerator.

When you put the bird in the fridge, put it in a shallow pan to catch any of the liquid that may result from thawing.

KCHI will have more on preparing your thanksgiving as the Thanksgiving holiday approaches.
