Hornets Drop 2 Overtime Games at Benton

The Chillicothe Hornets Varsity basketball team battled back from a 13 point deficit in the second half, but lost at St Joseph Benton 55-45 in overtime.
Chillicothe Senior Hayden Simmer hit two free throws in the final seconds of regulation to end the game into overtime.
The overtime belonged to Benton, which jumped out to a quick five-point  lead, thanks to three free throws.
Chillicothe was led by Griff Bonderer with 25 points, including four treys. Simmer ended with 13, Cayden Potter with five, James Mathew with two and playing time for Eli Cross, Wyatt Brandsgaard and Mason Baxter.
Benton was led by 6’6″ Junior Kason Mauzey with 20 points and two other players with 11 points each.
Benton was 13 of 22 from the free throw line while Chillicothe was five of ten.

The Cardinal JV team beat the Hornets JV 47 to 41 also in overtime. Chillicothe’s Landon Winder hit a trey late in the fourth quarter to send it to overtime, but the team was held scoreless in the 2-minute overtime.
Winder led Chillicothe with 121 points, James Mathew with eight, Cameron Fleener with six, Quentin Cranmer and Jackson Trout both with four, Kyle Young with three, Gabe Hansen and Alijah Hibner both with two.

The Benton C-team  jumped out to an early lead and went on to beat Chillicothe 53 to 15. Chillicothe had six points from Jackson Reeter, four from Milo Costner, three for Clayton Savage and two from Andrew Hecker.
