Fixing & Reporting Potholes

City and State Crews have been working on fixing potholes on the streets and highways since the weather began warming.  The potholes form with the cycle of warmer days and temperatures below freezing at night.

As the moisture gets into the cracks and then freezes at night, that moisture expands, forcing the surface of the road to rise and break apart and traffic causes the potholes to form.  As the cycle repeats the potholes get bigger and motorists begin to notice.

The Missouri Department of Transportation says they are still making temporary repairs as they wait for warmer temperatures when they can use what is known as Hot Mix to make the permanent repairs.

Motorists can report the location of potholes on state-maintained roads and city streets.
