Ward’s Walk Helps Hornets Win

Brock Ward’s keen eye and patience at the plate helped the Baseball Hornets beat St Joseph Benton 4 to 3.
Benton built a 3-0 lead with runs in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th innings. Chillicothe bounced back with a three-run seventh inning to send it to extra innings. In the bottom of the 7th, The Hornet’s Brock Ward reached on an error, Landon Winder had a double, a Wyatt Brandsgaard double scored Ward and Winder, Brandsgaard took 3rd on a ground out, and Tucker Wagers hit a fly ball but reached on an error to score Brandsgaard and tie the score.
In the bottom of the 9th, Wagers reached on a bunt single, Griff Bonderer walked, Gage Leamer singled on a ground ball to load the bases.
Brock Ward stepped up to the plate, took strike one looking, hit a foul ball, then took four straight balls that brought Wagers home for the 4-3 win.
Chillicothe had doubles from Brandsgaard, Brock Miller and Winder, plus two singles from Leamer, Wagers and one from Miller.
Bonderer had the start on the mound, Ward was in mid-inning relief and Leamer pitched the final three innings for the win. The three combined to allow three runs off nine hits with eight strike outs and five walks.
