Two Accidents, One Arrest – Serious, Moderate & Minor Injuries

State Troopers investigated two accidents in the area counties over the weekend.

An accident Saturday evening in Daviess County left a 12-year-old boy and an adult with serious injuries.  The Accident happened on US 69 near Pattonsburg at about 7:55 pm.  State Troopers report 31-year-old Evan Hummel of Cameron was southbound when he crossed the centerline, ran off the road, overcorrected and crossed the road again, went down an embankment and the car overturned, ejecting the driver through the sunroof.  Hummel was flown to Truman Medical Center and the 12-year-old boy was taken to Children’s Mercy Hospital.  They were not wearing safety belts.

Hummel faces charges of alleged DWI resulting in serious injuries, endangering the welfare of a child, careless and imprudent driving resulting in an accident, no seatbelt, no insurance, and no valid plates.


A two-vehicle accident near Prudin Sunday night left both drivers injured.  State Troopers report 64-year-old Stephen Biggs of Purdin was waiting to make a left turn from Highway 5 when he was struck from behind by a vehicle driven by 19-year-old Malichi Whitson of Hale.  Biggs was taken to Pershing Memorial Hospital in Brookfield for treatment of moderate injuries.  Whitson was taken to Hedrick Medical Center in Chillicothe for treatment of minor injuries.  Biggs was not wearing a safety belt.
