Hornets Baseball Win District Title

A Home Run and two fielders choices were the key plays in a Chillicothe 2-1 District Baseball win over Oak Grove.
The Hornets were the fifth seed in a five-team district but won just the second district title in program history. The only other was in 2005.
In the top of the first, the first two Hornet batters struck out, but Brock Ward had a little better at-bat, hitting a home run on a fly ball to left field.
The game turned into a pitchers dual until the bottom of the fourth when Oak Grove turned two singles into a game-tying run.
The pitchers dual continued until the top of the seventh. Tucker Wagers led off with a single, Mason Baxter grounded into a fielder’s choice that sent Wagers to the dugout. Brock Miller reached on an error, advancing Baxter to third.
After a Brock Ward walk, Landon Winder grounded into a fielder’s choice, scoring Baxter.
In the bottom of the seventh, Max Wagers took Oak Grove down 1-2-3 with two strike outs and a fly out to second base.
In addition to Brock Ward’s homer and his single, the Hornets had singles from Gage Leamer and Tucker Wagers.
Baxter went 6 innings, allowing three hits and one earned run. Max Wagers pitched the seventh. The two allowed one run off three hits with eight strike outs and one walk.
The Hornets will play the winner of Lafayette vs Savannah, which plays Thursday evening.
