Driver Runs Into Truck – Two Injured – Driver Arrested

An accident in Livingston County led to the arrest of one of the drivers.

At about 11:15 am, an accident on US 65, five miles south of Chillicothe left two passengers injured and a driver in custody.  State Troopers report 18-year-old Derick Rautanen of Brookfield was northbound and ran into the back of a Tractor/Trailer driven by a Trenton man.  Rautanen’s vehicle became stuck to the trailer and was dragged for a short distance. Rautanen was not injured, but two of his passengers, a 15-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl – both from Brookfield, had minor and moderate injuries.  They were taken to Hedrick Medical Center for treatment.  The truck driver was not injured.

Rautanen was arrested for two counts of alleged DWI with drugs – resulting in injuries, careless and imprudent driving involving an accident, no valid driver’s license, and no seatbelt.  He was held at the Daviess Dekalb Regional Jail.
