National Weather Service Storm Assessments

The National Weather Service is doing Damage Surveys and Assessments for the tornadoes and storms that moved through the area on Sunday.

For Livingston County, the National Weather Service categorized the tornado that struck at about 4:15 pm, 6 miles northwest of Chillicothe on Highway 190 near LIV 525, as an EF-0.  Peak winds were calculated at 80 miles an hour.  The tornado was on the ground for 3/10’s of a mile and about 25 years wide.

The tornado that first touched down at about 4:31 pm, between Chula and Wheeling, was categorized as an EF-2, with winds of 120 miles per hour.  The path of damage was 31.2 miles long, from between Chula and Wheeling to an area northeast of Purdin,  The maximum width of the storm was estimated at 150 yards.
