New Years Day Winter Storm In Forecast

The Missouri Department of Transportation is preparing for what is forecasted for the first significant winter storm of the season this weekend. The National Weather Service forecast is expecting periods of sleet, freezing rain, and snow throughout the state beginning late tonight and ending early Sunday.
MoDOT reminds drivers that even slight glazing of the pavement could impact travel, especially on elevated surfaces like bridges and overpasses. Drivers are reminded to slow down and allow themselves extra time if they must drive.
A possible extra complication is the New Year’s Eve holiday. MoDOT officials say if attending a holiday party, consider staying at your party destination, especially if you plan on drinking alcohol.
MoDOT Chief Safety and Operations Officer Becky Allmeroth said MoDOT crews will be out all weekend including clean-up on Sunday. She said there are a lot of new team members who will be training through this first storm.
