Sheriff Returns Nearly A Quarter Million Of Unused Funds From Budget

The Livingston County Sheriff’s Department returned nearly a quarter-million dollars to the Livingston County Budget at the end of 2021.  Sheriff Steve Cox says many areas the department spent more than 95% of the budgeted funds, that includes 95.7% of the budget for the Sheriff’s office, 96.7% of funds for Training, 98.3% of the Law Enforcement Sales Tax funds available for the Sheriff’s office and 95.8% Law Enforcement Sales Tax funds available for the Jail.

Cox says the county spent 100% of funds for inmate security.  The Inmate Security budget is funded through the court process and each year that money is strictly dedicated to helping with the costs of detainee health care.

Other areas of the budget that showed less of the budgeted amounts used include  73.7% of the funds for the Jail, 74.5% of the CCW budget, and 34.2% of the Civil Budget.

The total unused funds returned was $232,904.
