Two Grundy County Fires

Firefighters in Grundy County responded to two fires over the weekend.

A fire near Galt Saturday afternoon destroyed a barn.  The Galt Fire District responded with the Grundy County Rural Fire Department for the fire in the wooden barn that was destroyed.  Nearby buildings were not damaged.  The report indicated in addition to the barn, the owner lost 200 bales of hay, one lamb, and two ewes.  The cause of the fire is unknown.  The fire departments were on the scene for about two hours.

A fire Saturday morning near Leisure Lake damaged a home at 73220 Catalina Drive.  Trenton firefighters received the call at about 11:45 for a structure fire.  They arrived to find light smoke coming from the eaves.  They made entry into the attic by cutting a hole and found wooden beams smoldering.  A water can extinguisher was used to put out any smoldering embers and a thermal imaging camera was used to check for hot spots.

The cause of the fire was determined to be an overheated flue pipe from a wood stove.

The fire department was on the scene for about an hour.
