Apartment Fire Claims Life Of One Resident

A fire in an apartment house at 1015 Polk Street took the life of one of the residents Friday evening.  Chillicothe Firefighters received the alarm at 6:16 pm and were on the scene in five minutes to find Chillicothe Police assisting with the evacuation of residents.  Firefighters found heavy fire conditions in the three-story structure and began using water and foam to knock down the fire, pushing water in from the top.

One occupant was unaccounted for and a search and rescue effort located the resident in a downstairs apartment.  The resident was removed to an ambulance but was already deceased and the coroner was called to the scene.

One other resident suffered from smoke inhalation and was treated and released at the scene.

The State Fire Marshall was called to the scene to determine the cause of the fire.  That investigation continues.

Fire crews were on the scene for three and a half hours.

  • That was a concise, very well written description of what happened. Kudos to Tom Tingerthal. I wish our news was that well written and informative in SWMO!
Prayers for the victims and their families.
