Chillicothe Hornets Girls Soccer, Champions of Moberly Tournament

The Chillicothe Lady Hornets soccer team is the champion of the Moberly Tournament!

This marks the second tournament win of the season for the Lady Hornets.  They won the Chris Hotop Classic in late March.

Game 1:

On Friday, Chillicothe drew a first game matchup with the Bulldogs of Mexico High School.

Lucy Reeter scored the first two goals of the day, powering the ball past the goal keeper in the 12th and 25th minutes.  Delanie Kieffer assisted on both.

The first half would end in favor of Chillicothe 3-0 after a Juliann Gabrielson goal in the 40th minute was assisted by Reeter.

The second half started with a goal from Hailee Williams in the 44th minute off a feed from Reeter. Moments later, Delaine Kieffer made it a 5-0 game when she snuck in a ball in the 45th minute with the assist from Reeter.

Juliann Gabrielson had goals in the 47th and 75th minutes to complete a hat trick, both goals were assisted Reeter who finished the day with five assists.

Between the Gabrielson goals, Avery Baxter buried one in the 58th minute.

Allie Italiano racked up three saves, and Hadley Beemer, who subbed in during the 2nd half, had five saves.

It was an 8-0 shutout victory for the Lady Hornets to start the tournament.

GAME 2:

On Saturday, CHS had to play two games to become champs.  The first was against Battle High School of Columbia.

Julian Gabrielson struck first for the Lady Hornets in the 17th minute, Lucy Reeter had the facilitating pass.

Reeter also drove home a shot in the 48th minute to make it a 2-0 game heading in to halftime.

Gabrielson added her second goal of the game in the 47th minute in the second half.

Allie Italiano had four saves to complete her 4th shutout of the year, and the Hornets downed the Spartans 3-0 to advance to the championship game later in the day.

GAME 3:

To win the tournament, the Lady Hornets needed to find a way to beat the host team, the Moberly High School Spartans.

It was a full team effort in the championship game.  Coach Jimmy Chapman said that throughout the tournament, 21 different Hornets got to impact the game.

Ellie Barnett gave the Chillicothe the lead in 28th minute with assist from Lucy Reeter.

Skyler Powers was able to make it a 2-0 game in the 39th minute after taking the feed from Delanie Keiffer.

Just before halftime, the Spartans cut the lead in half when they scored the first, and only,  goal against Allie Italiano in the entire tournament. She had three saves in this one.

The Hornets added three more goals in the 2nd half including: Delanie Keiffer in the 49th, Juliann Gabrielson in the 50th and Lucy Reeter in the 77th.

The 5-1 victory made CHS champions of the Moberly Tournament.

Coach Chapman spoke about the challenges of this tournament, “Each game challenged us in different ways. Versus Mexico it was having success and then keeping up our energy and playing quicker. Battle it was getting up in a different town and doing something the girls aren’t used to and playing a tough team. Moberly challenged our legs and wind and our will a little bit, in that we just needed to win the tournament and then going up quickly giving up a goal and being able to respond to that, as well as tired legs and bodies,”.

The Lady Hornets next game is Tuesday when Hannibal comes to town. That game will be carried on KCHI!
