As Chillicothe Mayor Theresa Kelly is accepting applications to fill the City Clerk’s and now the City Auditor’s positions by appointment, the council discussed an option that had been brought up in the past. 1st Ward Councilman Reed Dupy talked about other ways to fill the positions, that had been discussed in the past.
City Attorney Robert Cowherd says the position would need to be filled by appointment through the remaining term (April 1st) at the current pay.
And since someone would need to be appointed, if the city hires for the position they would have to pay both salaries.
The advantage of hiring for the positions is getting a broader range of qualified candidates that don’t necessarily need to meet the elected person’s limitations, which include residency.
