Hornets Tennis Beaten by Trenton; Win Streak Stops at 4

Boys tennis, riding a four-match win streak, headed up to Trenton to take on the Bulldogs.  This was the second of three straight matches for the Hornets this week.

Singles

Chillicothe’s senior, Chace Corbin, was matched up with Trenton’s Trent Villacampa in the top singles match.  Corbin, who was undefeated going in to Tuesday night, had never lost to Villacampa in the four matches between them; including one in the Kirksville Tournament just last week.  But for the first time this season, Corbin found himself on the wrong side of things as he lost a nail-biter 7-9.

In the number two singles, Gabe Peterson was unsuccessful in his conquest of Bradyn Sager, 1-8.

Number three and number four singles were uncharacteristically a wash for Chillicothe as well.  Emmett Young and Josh Adams both lost their matchups in 3-8 fashion.

Jadon Collins and Jackson Reeter were the saving graces for the Hornets Tuesday night as they both topped their competition 8-3 in singles play.

Doubles

Corbin and partner, Josh Adams, weren’t able to pull out the win over Trent Villacampa and Sager in the top doubles match as they dropped that one 5-8.

Then in the number two doubles match, Peterson and Young couldn’t prevail as a pair in their attempt to beat Jonin Villacampa and Maverick Sole of Trenton. 6-8 was the final tally.

Collins and Reeter really had to work to earn their 9-8 (7-4) victory over Trenton’s Victor Markell/ Tucker Otto combination.

The Hornets lose just their second head-to-head matchup of the season to Trenton 3-6, their record now stands at 5-2.

The Hornets are back to the blacktop Wednesday night when they host Savannah High School in a make-up at Danner Park. That will be the team’s third dual in three days.
