Benton Baseball Too Much for Hornets to Handle on Thursday

Thursday, Chillicothe baseball was at home to host the Cardinals of Benton, who they lost narrowly to earlier in the season.

Benton took five runs in the first from the Hornet starter Justin Pyle and never looked back.

Pyle would last 4 and two thirds, but gave up 9 hits and 10 runs,  though only 2 of them were earned. Chillicothe had 6 fielding errors.

The Hornets would pick up a run in the bottom of the first on a sacrifice fly to left that brought Gage Leamer to the plate.

In a double steal situation in the bottom of the third, Gage Leamer was cut down trying to advance to second, but Cayden Potter took the chance to steal home and make it a 6-2 game.

The Hornets had two of their six hits fall for extra bases.  Those were doubles for Brody Cairns and Brock Ward.

Benton had five hitters with multi-hit performances and would coast to an 11 – 5 victory over the Hornets, who are off until they travel to Savannah on Monday.
