Demarcus Kelow wins State Championship in Discus on Day 1

There’s a new state champion in Chillicothe! Demarcus Kelow is the class 3 state champion for discus! Kelow delivered a state-best 54.46 meter throw on the first day of the Class 3 track and field state competition at Jefferson City High School.

Friday also saw Charles Walker compete in the state pole vault final, he finished 14th after clearing 3.5 meters on his second attempt.

In addition, Braxten Johnson finished 14th in the boys 300 meter hurdles with a time of 43.55 seconds. He did not qualify for the finals.

Kayanna Cranmer competed in two of the three events she’s qualified for this weekend. In the 800 meter final, she finished in 11th place after finishing in 2:24.78 minutes.

Then in the 400 meter preliminaries Cranmer crossed the finish line 17 hundredths of a second after the 8th place finisher from Fair Grove High School.  Her time of 1:00.72 put her in 9th place, she did not qualify for today’s final.

Day two of the state championship is today, the Hornets will be represented by Cy Evans in javelin at 9:30am, the relay team of Cranmer, Kadence Shipers, Kayla Cakranata, and Jolie Bonderer in the 4 by 800 meter relay at 10:30 am, Tristan Forck in high jump at 3:00pm and Demarcus Kelow in shot put at 3:30 pm.
