Mudcats Fall in Home Opener, 14-7, to Clarinda

CHILLICOTHE – Max Peterson had three of Clarinda’s eight extra base hits Thursday, sending the A’s to a dominant 14-7 win over Chillicothe at Shaffer Park.

The heart of Clarinda’s lineup, which included Will Wash and Jered Anderson as well as Peterson combined for seven of the team’s extra base hits. Anderson had 3 RBI, and Hayes Edens reached base all five times.

Tyler Bickers had two hits for the Mudcats and the bottom five hitters in Chillicothe’s order each reached base three times, but Jake Young’s shaky start put the game out of reach early.

Clarinda got six runs in the first two innings and drew five walks in the contest against Young, chasing him after five innings of work.

Chillicothe, after a heartbreaking 12-inning loss Tuesday, drops to 0-2 after the loss to the A’s.

The Mudcats return to Shaffer Park Friday to battle the Sedalia Bombers. First Pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
