CHILLICOTHE – Clarinda jumped out to an early lead and rode a dominant start from Adam Becker, and the A’s shut out Chillicothe 5-0 Thursday at Shaffer Park.

Becker tossed six scoreless innings for the A’s, allowing just four hits. All that came without a single strikeout, as the first Mudcat punch out of the game came in the seventh inning against relief man Colby Royal.

Eight of the nine starters for Clarinda registered at least one hit in a very well-balanced offensive attack. Four of the five runs were scored in the first two innings off of Mudcat hurler Jake Young.

Young went seven innings deep, which is the longest any Mudcat starter has gone in a game this season. It was also Young’s first appearance this year without walking a batter, but the A’s barreled him up early and often.

Conner Fletcher and Koby Linder both gave the Chillicothe bullpen scoreless innings, but the damage was already done, and the Mudcats saw their two-game spurt come to an end.

Chillicothe was shut out for the first time this year and falls to 6-11 with the loss.

The Mudcats hit the road Saturday for their first meeting with the Nevada Griffons. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. C.T.
