Mudcats mount extra-inning comeback in game 1, blow 7th-inning lead in game 2 to split doubleheader with Carroll

CHILLICOTHE – Chillicothe scored four times in the 10th in game one, capped off by a Luis Ramirez two-run single to win 10-9, but surrendered six runs with two outs in the seventh in game two, falling 13-10 to split a doubleheader with Carroll at Shaffer Park Sunday.

The Mudcats trailed the entire way in the first game until Ramirez hit a high chopper that bounced over a pulled-in infield to score two and seal the win.

Jake Young made the longest start for any Mudcat pitcher this season, going eight innings, but was left with a no-decision. Steven Ricketts struggled, giving up four runs in relief, but picked up the win.

In game two, the Mudcats used a hodgepodge of arms, including position player Elijah Maris, to carry them through, and it nearly resulted in a sweep. With two outs and two strikes in the seventh inning, Seth Christiansen shot one into the left-center field gap to score to and give Carroll a 9-8 lead, which was good enough for the victory.

Chillicothe moves to 13-21 on the season.

The Mudcats return to Shaffer Park Monday for a doubleheader against St. Joseph. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. C.T.
