Hornets Football Routs Marshall 42-7 In Season Opener.

The Chillicothe Hornets took down the Marshall Owls in dominant fashion on Friday night, winning 42-7.

Junior RB/CB Javon Kille started the season off with a bang on Friday night. He picked up the opening kickoff off the turf at the 8-yard line, hurdled a defender, and took it 92 yards to the house to open up the 2022 season.

The momentum continued for the Hornets, turning the Owls over on downs around midfield and striking quickly on their first offensive possession. Sophomore running back Silas Midgyett capped off a 52 yard drive with a 5-yard touchdown run to make it 13-0 early in the first quarter.

The Hornets would not slow down, tacking on two more touchdowns in the first quarter. Cayden Potter scampered for an 18-yard touchdown to extend the lead to 21-0. Griff Bonderer showed off his arm on the ensuing drive connecting with fellow senior Max Wagers for a 68-yard touchdown down the seam.

The Hornets carried the 29-0 lead into the half and did not look back.

Corbin Rodenberg punched in a 2-yard touchdown in the third quarter to make the game 36-0. The Owls were able to score their lone touchdown of the game late in the third quarter to cut the deficit to 36-7.

Silas Midgyett carried four defenders on his back for his second touchdown of the game early in the fourth quarter from 23 yards out to bring us to the final score of 42-7.

Griff Bonderer finished his first start at quarterback going 4-7 for 120 yards and a touchdown, Max Wagers tallied 106 yards receiving and a touchdown, and Cayden Potter came away with 97 yards on the ground and a score.

The Hornets are back in action next Friday at 7 pm when they travel to Kirksville to take on the Tigers.
