Chillicothe Girls Tennis Places 4th At The Benton Tourney

The Lady Hornets Tennis team snatched 4th Place at the Benton Tournament on Friday.

Early Friday morning, the Chillicothe Lady Hornets varsity tennis team traveled to Noyes’ Courts for the 10-team St. Joseph Benton Tournament. This year, the tournament directors changed the format to be team-based competition instead of individual bracket play. At the start of the day, five teams each faced off in team pool play. Chillicothe faced Trenton, Maryville, Savannah, and Lafayette all before lunch.

For the Lady Hornets, the following athletes filled the lineup:

Cami Carpenter in #1 Singles

Bryton BeVelle in #2 Singles

Rylee Washburn & Isabella Garr in #1 Doubles

Madison Kieffer & Micah Crowe in #2 Doubles

These matchups resulted in two team wins for Chillicothe — 3-1 over Trenton & 4-0 over Maryville — before a tough loss to Savannah 0-4. Next, the team battled Lafayette in tight matches to fight for a spot in the semi-finals — winning 3-1.

At lunch, six teams were sent home for the day while the top two teams from each pool moved on to bracket play for medals. Chillicothe faced off against St. Pius in a full nine-game Dual where all six players competed in singles & doubles to earn a spot in the Championship. Chillicothe came up just short, losing 4-5 as a team. Finally, the team faced Bishop LeBlond for third place, once again coming up just a few games short, losing 4-5 to capture fourth place overall out of the 10 teams.

Individual Scores were as follows:
Cami Carpenter — 7-1 overall
Bryton BeVelle — 6-2 overall
Rylee Washburn — 4-4 overall
Isabella Garr — 3-5 overall
Madison Kieffer — 1-7 overall
Micah Crowe — 3-5 overall
