This is National Work Zone Awareness week and MoDOT Area Engineer Austin Hibler says Work Zone safety is important for both the drivers and the employees.
Hibler says motorists will be seeing more active work zones as the weather improves.
Hibler says in 2018, 13 people were killed in Missouri work zone crashes and distracted driving was a leading contributor. He says since 2000, 19 MoDOT employees were killed in the line of duty, 13 of them in Works Zones.
MoDOT tells drivers “phone down – Buckle Up!” Don’t be distracted by your phone, turn it off or put it out of reach and when you get in your vehicle make sure you and your passengers are buckled up.
