When the flood waters on the Grand and Thompson Rivers reached their peak late last week, they reached a level that was not expected at the Chillicothe R-II School District office. The building was flooded and that means the offices have been moved to temporary quarters in the CHS Media Center. Superintendent Dr. Roger Barnes says flood waters got past the sandbagging and into the building, starting with the basement.
Barnes says they don’t have a total dollar amount for damages, but they are working with their insurance carrier.
The district staff had removed much of the items they had stored in the basement before the flooding, but the water came up so quickly that they were not able to remove or relocated items before the flooding of the main floor.
Barnes says the goal is to have all of the work to clean up and restore the main floor offices and replace any furnishings that are needed by the beginning of August.
