When the City of Chillicothe looks at what bid to accept for a project, the normal thought is going with the lowest bid.
City Administrator Darren Chappell says it is not that easy. He says city officials want to go with the lowest responsible bid but, it’s not that easy.
He says responsible also means supporting the local economy, which must be taken into consideration before approving a bid.
He says buying from Mom and Pop local businesses, money is recycled seven times before leaving the community. He says the city also receives sales tax each of the times the money is recycled.
City ordinances says if a local company is with in 3% of the lowest bid, they city can accept the local bid.
